. . .18 degrees

I am sitting here checking email, getting ready for a new work day . . . and pooof!

I am hit with a blast of cold air!

No door has been opened, it is the blasted heat pump coming on! It will eventually make the rest of the room warm, but the little cover over the vent that directs the air - has to go! Heat pump blow cold air!

I bet they don't have these things in Wisconsin?!?

So as in many things, even uncomfortable moments, fun memories can resurface. I have to smile as I remember being little, living in Denver and cold mornings.

I can remember waking during the night and knowing by the glow of the light on the window shade snow had started falling. I don't know what it was, I am sure it was the reflection of street lights on the white stuff, but it was exciting to know, when the sun rose there would be snow covering the ground.

I remember the fun of jumping up, warm in a flannel nightgown heading straight for the heater vent in the floor. I would stand over it with my gown billowing out and the warmth of the heat covering me. It was silly and the fun of being a kid . . . but I kinda wish this morning my heater blew actual hot air!!

Mornings like this also bring to mind various "cold" sayings . . .

Cold as a frosted frog.

Cold as an ex-wife's heart.

Cold as a cast iron commode.

Cold as a banker's heart.

It's so cold, the snowman came in to warm up

Cold as a witches . . . .

So what about you? Does the cold just make you cold or bring back a memory and smile?
What cold weather expressions do you use or have heard?

I woke up this morning and wondered "Am I still in FLorida?? 19 degrees here! Yesterday, that last one about the witch came to mind. I laughed out loud thinking, what does that mean?! Where did that come from? I don't want to know.

Mine is similar to yours - on cold Sunday afternoons, sitting infront of a furnace vent, wrapped in a blanket, reading a book... AHHHHH

What a sweet memory! I've never heard the iron commode saying. That's funny!

I am a little further North in Georgia than you, and I had 20 temp this morning on the way home from my son's school. Ack! I'm not a cold lover. But I do remember standing over that vent in the floor at my grandparent's house. It would get pretty hot on bare feet, but I would work my way around that part.

Ok, this is a new one and very effective:

"Cold as a cast iron commode"

See now, there's a new saying with Greg when we get into his car....

"Warm my butt, Honey."

He has heated car seats. Lol.

But over all, I love the cold.

Ha, ha! That is cold! We've only been in the 20s here, but it's cold enough for me.

I sooo remember standing over the floor heater vent, in my flannel gown as a child too! Thanks for the memory!

Freezing my ass off, ... sorry.

So cold her veins froze!

That is what we were doing today in Connecticut. Freezing our... well you know the rest.

I grew up in Tucson, and the only thing that "cold" brings to mind is a nice cold swimming pool with a nice tall glass of cold Diet Coke.

I can't stand heat pumps because of the cold air. I never feel totally warm.

My childhood memories are of my grandmother putting us to bed with 4 heavy quilts. You could not move once she tucked us in. She did not run the furnace or the gas wall heaters at night. No heat at all. Mornings were a little chilly, but I have such wonderful memories of my grandparents.

We would awake to the smell of homemade biscuits, bacon, sausge, eggs and grits. Sometimes they would bring us breakfast in bed when it was really cold. We would sit by the floor furnace till it was warm.

I hate the cold. It makes my fingers hurt. For real.

I just like to be warm. Once Sept. hits, I'm cold until the middle of June.

I didn't grow up with a furnace. We had electric heat. But my kids like to sit on the heat vents. And still today, like it when I take the warm towels out of the dryer and put them on them.
Have a good day.
